Bollywood Flashback 2010

Disclaimer: As the year gets closer to form New Year’s resolution I think its time for me to write the top 5 post like last year. This time its strictly filmy duniya and in no order of hierarchy.
Before you issue any fatwa against me please note this post is strictly my endorsement (Pssst yes I was asked to look into mirror and called ugly after I commented about Priyanka’s look in Anjaana Anjaani). Tees Maar Khan is not included anywhere as I am sure I won’t be getting to see it before January next year.

Please to be not throwing any nasty brickbats – for that start your own blog. Apart from that suggestions/ perky statements are heartily invited in the comments section.

Top 5 Cliched movies of 2010

1. Pyaar Impossible - Solo hit for Uday impossible. Another movie that just about proves Priyanka Chopra is entirely a director’s muse. Without them she is pretty much a sore-eye material.

2. I hate Luv Storys - The entire movie was cliched except a few dialogues that induced laughter. Music was the saving grace. Sonam literally sleep walked through the entire movie. Who can forget the legendary war of tweets between Punit Malhotra and Shobhaa De? :P

3.Anjaana Anjaani - So you take Priyanka Chopra post this discovery of being PV Narsimha Rao’s relative. She has proved her nick name Piggy Chops right. She has actually looked like a pig with that horrible lip job. Ranbir oh Ranbir is the only eye candy. Aas Paas Hai Khuda is the only good thing about this major cliched flick.

4. Chance Pe Dance - Shahid’s biggest problem is he tries TOO HARD in his roles that it looks like a pathetic caricature instead. Terrible execution and fail script.

5. Housefull - One day I would like to understand the forced humour courtesy the laughter gas. I hope Saajid Khan gets a bit sane with his next one. Dude you cannot  poke fun at other directors while you churn up the same ol’ shit to the audience. This movie shares the dias with another Akki starrer.
Khatta Meetha - As Masand said, this movie is indeed a schizophernic movie. You expect us to laugh right after the lead supporting actress is brutally murdered?  And Akki we are allergic to bullshit. Sad you used Sir RK Laxman to promote this cheap flick.

Top 5 movies that are so bad that they are good

1.Veer - Oh c’mon don’t tell me you are over those Kat look alike jokes on the overweight Zarine Khan.

2.Get Educated:Paathshaala – I was actually laughing at the dialogs of this movie. What was with Ayesha’s role? I really want to probe further. Shahid was his usual CLICHE self. He tries so HARD that it sucks.

3. Aisha -  Still trying to get over Sonam Kapoor’s Retweets about the ‘alleged’ box office collection. The entire movie was a larger than life fashion show. C’mon Arjun *fans her face with hand*

4.We are Family – Yes you DO NOT cast Arjun Rampal sandwiched between Kajol and Kareena – who by the portrays almost the real life role in this movie. Pbbbttt Sara and Ibrahim’s daayan. :P it was not Kajol it was indeed the audience who died by the end of this epic failure.

5.Hissssss - I don’t exactly know the exact number of S in the title neither I know what made Irrfan Khan sign this movie. But the dialogs are legendary. I highly recommend it on a crazy crazy Saturday night with beer in tow.

Dabbaang - No you cannot give a number to this movie. Its a sheer guilty pleasure. With the B grade dialogs and Munni Badnaam Hui song ladies and gentleman we clearly have a winner here. If you have fainted by now, try sniffing some phus phus.
Top 5 surprise packages that made us proud

1. Love, Sex aur Dhokha – Dibakar Banerjee nailed it yet again. A super strong script, rocking and stellar performance by caste and hat-ke execution.

2. Peepli [Live] – The movie that talked about a lot without being too preachy. A rare dark comedy after Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. Kudos to Anusha Rizvi. Good luck Aamir for the Oscars. I hope you bury the hatchet with Anusha.

3. Do Dooni Chaar - One of those light feel good movies that makes you reminisce about tough time your family would have faced in past. Remarkable chemistry by my favorite on-screen jodi – Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. Duggals rock!

4.Phas Gaye Re Obama - Smart Script. These were the two words that popped into my head once I finished watching this movie. Stellar performance by Manu Rishi.

5.Udaan - This is clearly my favourite movie ever. Its hard to see such layered and real-life characters in hindi film industry. Ronit Roy makes your jaws dropped. Amit Trivedi’s legendary music and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics will leave you feeling positive. Do check the IMDB trivia. Click on the movie title or here.

Top 5 duds

1. Kites - Seriously, what was the fuss all about? Even the alleged romance between Mori and Hrithik couldn’t make this a success. Music was a big big big letdown.

2. Raavan - Why oh why? This movie was a visual treat with OTT acting by Abhishek Bachchan (later on conveniently supported by Papa Bachchan). Music received mixed response from the ARR fanatics.

3. Prince….its showtime – Yes a sequel is planned. You can kill me now. Viveik Sleazy Oberoi’s maha epic drama with not one, not two but three heroines left us crying for our money back. You saw this FDFS? Yes I am judging you right there.

4. Teen Patti - So you take Mr. Bachchan, Ben Kingsley and R.Madhavan and ruin a perfect caste. Its almost a federal offence that can lead you to punishment to watch Himes’ Radio and Kajra Re back to back.

5. Action Replayy – not even the star cast nor the interesting genre could save this Vipul Amrut Shah’s presentation from the audience who literally got Zor Ka Jhatka.

Top 5 OSTs

1. I hate luv Storys – Movie was a big cliche but the soundtrack is peppy, soothing and has songs to match all genres.

2. Aisha - Oh c’mon it gave us Gal Mitthi Mitthi bol and the haunting Lehrein and the soothing Shaam. Brilliant work by Amit Trivedi again.

3. Karthik Calling Karthik – Every guy’s wish should be to sing Jaane Ye Kya Hua to the love of his life. Uff teri Ada IS the dance floor song of 2010. Hey Ya was mushness personified and the title track haunting.

4. Udaan - Kahaani Khatam hai ya shuruwaat hone ko hai? Each and every track is a master piece. Positive lyrics and Amit Trivedi’s tunes will leave you wanting to hear it on infinite loop.

5. Guzaarish - Sau Gram Zindagi has been on loop playlist and so has O Saiba. Tera Zikr still leaves us hopelessly in love.

AND YES leaving you with…..Top 5 Dance Numbers for your New Year’s  Party List

1. Munni Badnaam Hui
2. Uff Teri Adaa
3. Sheila Ki Jawaani
4. Gal Mitthi Mitthi BolZor Ka Jhatka
5. Ainvayi Ainvayi Lut Gaya

Leaving you with a poll to solicit response for best 2010 flick.

Have a spectacular 2011 folks. Enjoy the party season. Be safe!

Lets burn the roof – Woohooo

Avada has tagged me to list 5 of my favorite dancing numbers. Sorry honey for being tad too late…was occupied with the uni exams…

I love dancing and as it is a major stressbuster for me, I am taking liberty here to list more than my fair share of 5 tracks that groove me just about any where – car, shower, kitchen, office, road, crossings, malls………

(Songs are listed in no particular order!). See the amazing videos tooo…

1. Aaja Nachle – Boy I love dancing and matching Madhuri’s step. This one is my favorite and I love the typical bollywood matkas and jhatkas on this track. Last time I danced on it was on Sujatha’s Diwali party in 2008 (kinda solo). ;)

2. To Brazil – Vengaboys eternal song…..man we danced a lot on this on my parent’s 25 Wedding Anniversary celebrations. Whenever I listen to this track – I think of old gold days and see happy faces of mom and dad.

3. Sukhbir’s Sauda Khara Khara – Any Sukhbir song and we all cousins would turn nuts…..Dil Lena Dil Dena – Hai Sauda Khara Khara….Nachley Soniye, Dil Kare (Macha’s fav track :D )

4. Aahun Aahun – I actually dance sitting in my office while listening to this on iPod. Ankh lad jaana, mar mukh jaana, ekoiye kahaani bus badle zamaana. Can’t wait to flaunt my grooves on my birthday bash!! Shhhh Sshhhh Sssshhhhh details will be posted later ;)

5. Chor Bazaari – Love this one…..naughty steps and fultoo masti after being high! You betcha ;) rang birnaga paani peeke seedhi saadhi mehak bigad gai… ;)

6. I gotta feeling – BEP I love you for giving us this every party number. Ppppppparty everyday…ppppparty everyday….I love – ‘lets burn the roof – wohoooo and we do it aggggaainnn….Crazy Soph and I danced away to glory on Beca ball on this one.

7. Jahaan Teri Ye Nazar Hai – Mimicking the famous Big B dance step and memories of Conti party revisited. We danced a lot on this song on our last day of school life!

8. Dil Le Gayi Kudi Gujarat Di – Another oldy but awesome song. ‘Kem Cho Majja Macho’. Another one in the same league would be Aaja Nachle (Hans Raj Hans aur Bally Sagoo waala). Or as a matter of fact Sagoo’s Gur Naalo Ishq Mittha tooo yaay I am high on these desi punjabi numbers ;)

9. Mauja Hi Mauja – I love Shahid’s and Hrithik’s dance and this one is my favorite number. O maahi mera sharbat verga, o maahi tennu cham cham rakhna!

10. Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen – Another classics and awesome songs to let your hair loose. Friday nights and the lights are low..looking out for a place to go – where they play the right music….yeah babbby right music that’s what its all about…

11. Dance pe chance – A musical tutorial for typical bollywood jhatkas. Ek haath uta le yara jaise suiyan 7 se 12 le ban gaya step soniya….dooja haath hile zara neeche, jaise udti patang koi kheeche- Le ban gaya step soniya. I can so totally teach my partner some steps on this one???

12. Balle Balle je soniya te rang vekh lo (Balle Balle Amritsar to LA) – Awesome mix from the crossover movie. I was suppressing my feelings and acting as a shy bride on my engagement when they played this song and I knew I had to dance and I did too :) And now I am dancing while seeing the video…. :D

13. Sajnaji Waari Waari – Crazy dance moves by KK from the movie Honeymoon Travels. Love dancing on this one!

There are so many more..sorry Avada for being late, I was tied with uni earlier and now with the party preps…….will post the detailed info about the party we are planning with the pics soon..

Wish me luck :)

Music Review : Dil Bole Hadippa

After being literally addicted to Love Aaj Kal, I am finally back to listening another Pritam’s soundtrack in Dil Bole Hadippa. The promos are fresh and funny…. (thanks Kanika babe for sending the Youtube link). Rani is looking leaner and hope this saves her titanic. Shahid is usual hot himself and hope he strikes this time too after his Kaminey act.

The album comprises of 6 tracks – and all have heavy punjabi feel to them. The lyrics are the usual hinglish composition and have a BIG Pritam stamp on it. Caution: The album won’t surprise you with any track! All the songs have similar dhol beat to it courtesy the story background.

1. Discowale Khisko – The background music-that’s what I love about this song, reminds me of Punjabiyaan di shaan in form of Yeh Desh hai veer jawaano ka interlude or barah barsi tune. The songs belong to Sunidhi Chauhan and KK does his fair bit too. ‘Ajj Disco paale khisko ab desi beat bajaani’. This has Pritam’s stamp all over it. Already a major chartbusters for sure.

2.  Ishq hi rab hai – God what’s with YRF and fixation of Rab Ishq…matlab made a whole movie on RAB Concept but still need more. Like Himes unkil’s chunariya fixation. The song starts on a breezy note and I wait for Shreya Ghoshal’s magical voice to come. This is the only soft number comparing to the other solid punjabi tracks. The lyrics are again Punjabi and Shreya Ghoshal is not sounding too great. The voice is weak I don’t know but I didn’t like it and then waited for Sonu Niigaam to take over the mic. The song has got a little bit of Aisa Desh Hai Mera (Veera -Zaara) feel to it in terms of lyrics. Sonu Nigam makes an entry in the second half of song. Its a cakewalk for him nothing to write home about. Not a great track overall.

3. Bhangra Bistar – Yes sounds interesting…Alisha begins with hinglish lyrics and I can so totally see bindaas Rani ala Bunty Babli mouthing these. And the second line – Sunidhi comes and you will just love her and thank her for coming and you can see the Surdy Rani doing bhangra on this. The punju traits are all over there – ‘Aa gaye Ji Punjab ke Sher with Bhangra Bistar Beer Bater’ I wish I could say a loud brrruuaaah. Then you have barah barsi khattan gaya see coming…and you will just love it.Hard Kaur does her fair job here. The combo of Sunidhi, Alisha and Hard Kaur works perfectly fine! The stanzas are run of mill and I keep waiting for Sunidhi’s line. Lyrics are total time pass – ‘subah subah muh apna beer se dhote hai, thaane hi jaake sudhre ye aise khotte hai’// ‘Khotte dil ke bure nai shakal aisi hai, Dil pet se juda hai ye akal aisi hai’. Li’l Birdie tell me this ones featuring Rakhi Sawant wooing surdy Rani!

4. Gym Shym – This track is by Joshilay (loved their albums and thank god they have made a come back). The song starts with a heavy hinglish mix and you won’t probably get the hang of it as a first time listener. And I so totally don’t see myself listening to this while working out in gym now. :( The interludes are typical of Pritam. I can pass this track with no regrets. Liked the ‘Eh hadippa, doh hadippa, aha hadippa bit’ and can see people mouthing this loudly in dance clubs!

5.Hadippa (Remix) and Hadippa – Mauja Hi Mauja reprising here totally…what more than even Rani looking like Kareena’s clone in her outfit; I infact mentioned this on my FB Status update when the video came out!!!
What I loved – //’Chewing gum hai chabbi jaa, handpump hai dabbi ja,life da juica kaddi jaa, fikar kare fukre//.
Mika is his usual self and Sunidhi supports himself in this title track and obviously this is already a chart buster. The Delhi crowd specially is gonna go bonkers (But but but when I am there I am still dancing on Aahun Aahun! Ok Kanika???).

6. Disco Khisko (Remix) – Master Salim has lent his voice and I am not sure who he is..Salim I know of Salim-Sulaiman fame but master Salim? He has sung this in super bratty jatt voice and nothing exceptional. The line- ‘Na Boli Na bhaasha dil gaali pe o bhaasha’ has ‘Oye dippo oye toni ab kaise taali honi, hudd ki karna is khotte ta khoon peeke’ (Bhootni ke from Singh is Kiing)’ tune to it. This has Mika meets Jazzy B feel.

My fav picks Bhangra Bistar and Hadippa (Remix)

Rating : 2/5

Ik Tara

Ever since Mann Ki Lagan came out, I have never been moved by any other hindi song so much! Ye Dooriyaan had its impact on me, but Ik Tara takes me to another level.

Guys please please please listen to this number….this will just immerse you in its beauty! Ask me if you want it….the lyrics are amazing – thank you Javed Sahab. Kudoz SEL, KJo, Kavita Seth, Amitabh Bhattacharya- god bless you people for blessing us with this gem…

This is what describes this amazing piece….

Music Review : Wake Up Sid

iPod has been pointed to play WUS OST and this is the live review here folks.
SEL team is back here wohooooo. 6 standard song and I have high expectations from this one and hope they are satisfied! I also want to see the video as the songs are progressive in their feeling and lyrics. The problem well not exactly a problem is heavy stamp of Rock On or DCH or Luck By Chance or Dostana feel to it. Read below to know what I mean! Still the songs will leave you with a nice heart warming feeling.

1. Wake Up Sid! – Shankar singing this opening title track and this ones too reminiscent of a standard Dil Chaahta Hai OST or Luck By Chance or Rock On OST or even TZP. I wish so badly wish if KK was given this number not saying Shankar hasn’t sung this well but listen to this and how you will wish too if KK was given this one specially when he sings ‘Suno Suno Suno Wake Up Sid! Saare pal kahein chal kahin chale’. Lyrics are nothing exceptional. The song is better towards the end! Loved – ‘Aankein masalta hai ye saara samaa, Awwaazein bhee deti hai angdayiaan’.

2. Kya Karoon? – Sung by newcomer Clinton Cerejo in his rough voice this one sounds too good when it starts. You can totally listen to it while feeling the wind blowing you hair in the car. This has heavy jazzy Dostana feel to it (Jaane Kyun). Looks like Bollywood camp is indeed ‘waking up’ and promoting amazing talents of all these sudden breed of Catholic singers – Clinton Cerejo or Dominique Cerejo (Rock On : Ye Tumhari meri baatein) so matching surnames -are these two related ??? Will have to probe further!!!!!! The ending guitar notes are very nice.

3. Aaj Kal Zindagi – Another one by Shankar this has very nice and bright and inspirational lyrics. I can listen to it when I am low (which I am getting often these days hmmmppppfff).

4. Iktara – This is sung by Kavita Seth and Amitabh Bhattacharya. I liked Kavita’s voice and the rough texture of it. This one is clearly my favourite. Amitabh takes the song forward and I don’t know why this song is too reminiscent of Dil Mein Kuch Ho Raha Hai (Freaky Chakra). The lyrics are beautiful and it will be exciting to see Koko and Ranbir sharing screen space whilst this song plays in background (Oh C’mon I know this has to be one of those background songs!). I just loved Kavita and how she ends this with a bright alaap in end. She has ghazal like quality in her voice.

5. Life is Crazy – Sung by Uday Benegal and Shankar. Kudoz SEL for promoting new talents! This ones my second favourite clearly. We all can sing in chorus with the lead singers while they sing – ‘Lllllllife is Crazy hai yeh rang birang, llllliiife is crazy kehti hai umang, lllllife is crazy gao san sang’. This has Rock On : Socha hai stamp on it. Shankar is unbelievably sounding like Farhan Akhtar here!

6. Wake up Sid! (Club Mix) – Ok so did we actually required a club mix for this one? Well lets save this question till the movie comes out. The tick tock of alarm clock is cute in the beginning. this one is catchier than the original one and can be in my playlist for sure!

Fruity’s picks in order of preference – Iktara, Life is Crazy and Wake Up Sid! (Club Mix)
Overall rating – 3.5/5

PS For some ignorant friends of mine ;), SEL is ‘Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’ :P

I will be back with ‘What’s your Rashee’ it will take some time as the album has 13 songs!!! :P Typical Ashutosh G …. so far I am loving ‘Bikhri Bikhri’ from this album. Some ignorant friends must listen to this…. :) its my dedication to them.

90’s Bollywood Potboiler/Masala Movies

These movies weren’t necessarily shot in exotic locales, nor did the music had likes of Snoop Dogg or Pritam or Himes Unkil and had 6 standard songs with no remixes of RDB Style, Tiger style, iska style, uska style, the actresses weren’t necessarily the babes in bikinis and the heroes weren’t exactly the men on mission with superpowers or metrosexual tags.

Mast 90s

Mast 90s

Coming back to the point, here goes the list…and yes you are more than whole heartedly welcome to give me your suggestions, lets expand the list people…  ;) Please note that I am not trying to add the obvious known choices like Hum or Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander or HAHK,KKHH  type movies here, these are the otherwise masala potboilers we have forgotten or are now a cult movies….

1. Andaaz Apna Apna - Well I don’t think I have to give reasons for this being in my list. Aamir and Salman actually tied their jeans with slim belts (way over the waist hahaha). Karisma looked straight out of school with bright orange lipstick and Raveena – my she looked so pretty (she does today too!).This legendary movie introduced us to the nephew of Mogambo – Crime Master Gogo, the famous ‘do dost ek hi pyaali mein chai piyenge‘, ‘Teelu‘, ‘Teja main hu Mark Idhar Hai‘, ‘sorry sir galti se mistake ho gaya‘, ‘balki main to kehta hu aap purush hee nai hai’. The beautiful yet crazily shot songs - Dil Karta Hai tere paas aau, Ye Raat aur ye durri - Salman and his cute dholak and Karisma in her cute pink nightdress or Aamir’s cap going up seeing Raveena blushing in her yellow dress or the romantic Aye Lo jee Sanam hum aa gaye with OP Nayyar’s reminiscence. (PS I have joined Crime Master Gogo’s fan page on FB and yeah guys they have some seriously funny updates that will make you laugh everytime you open your homepage).

2. Tahelka - First things first – I so badly want to ask Naseeruddin Shah why why why did he sign this movie? The amazing Shom Shom Shom Shamo Shasha anthem by Sitar playing General Dong aka Amrish Puri (of Dongrila), the cross dressing, the rip off of Old McDonald had a farm in Mere Dil mein tera dil hai eeya eeya o, the dancing Dharam Paaji on Put on the ghungroo on my feet and watch my dirrama, the overtly patriotic Mukesh Khanna, young looking Pallavi Joshi or hypnotic Firdaus Dadi, passable Sonu Walia or Ekta…..the truck scene where they served them a unique drink – god I don’t wanna type more. Read another hilarious review here.

3. Gopi Kishen - Who can forget the kid crying – ‘mere do do baap!‘. The double role of Sunil Shetty, buxom Shilpa Shirodkar in tight bright lehengas, catty Karisma and the famous Hanuman Ji scene. 100% fultoo masala potboiler bole to!

4. Thaanedar – O c’mon don’t tell me you don’t remember the path breaking - Tamma Tamma loge and Madhuri and her famous black dress. Coincidentally at a wedding I actually saw a girl wearing the same outfit much to our surprise! Sanju baba fooling the poor villagers and they singing his praises in the long title song……pehli pehli baar aisa thanedaar aaya!! ;) or the nerve wrecking song for all the recently married grooms - jab se hui hai shaadi aansu baha raha hu, aafat gale padi hai usko nibha raha hu

PS IMDB tells me there is a Thanedaarni as well :D

5. Raja Babu - Shakti Kapoor, yes that is what I remember the most from this movie now with his shorts and naada coming out and jumping and yelling - Raja baabu aa gaye. The songs were OTT - Aa ee ooo mera dil na toddo or Pak Chik Pak Raja Babu and and and the highly embarassing Sarkaye Leyo Khatiya jaada lage. Trust me only Lolo and Chichi can make this song look cute while mouthing and acting the vulgar meaning lyrics!

6. Saajan Chale Sasural - One of the few movies apart from Biwi No.1 where Tabu has a gala time crying OTT and being a pati parmeshwar type wife. Tum to dhokebaaz ho - the video of confusion, Govinda dancing in hotel’s adjacent rooms with both wives. The climax scene where all of them are hung on a rope! The cute Ram Narayan Baaja baajjata……

7. Hathkadi – Well kudoz to Govinda for the third entry in my list. This movie had him in a double role opposite Madhoo and Shilpa shetty (with or without her original nose that I ‘d have to probe further). The songs were quite a chartbusters - Lekar Tujhko Jaunga Dulhan Aanan Fanan, Mere Chaandi Jaise Baal Kamaal Kamaal. The double role was well played by Govinda, I liked him specially in Rajnikath’s role.

8. Dil Tera Aashiq – Salman and Madhuri starrer with Anupam Kher playing a strict uncle falling head over heels with wig wearing fat Madhuri. This had some chartbusters as well - Dil Tera Aashiq, Namaste Namaste. Madhuri portrayed the role of a poor girl so poooooooor that she didn’t had food in her home and the home was worse than a regular house maid’s home, still she had perfect lipstick, modern clothes and the attitude of a city girl! Waah

9. King Uncle – Rakesh Roshan’s production starring SRK, Jackie Shroff and Anu Aggarwal (!!!!). The cute girl child was the same girl who played Kajol’s baby sister in DDLJ and she also appeared in Nazia Hassan’s remix video - Aakhein Milane Wale. The story was cute and the girl did win lots of hearts. Anu played the stupid PA to strict and boring Jackie Shroff. The lovely snowy locations and a cute song featuring SRK and Nagma on a cycle in fields (anyone here who remembers the song??? Ooo ooo actually I remember now Is jahaan ki nahi hai tumhari aankein, aasma se ye kisne utari aankhein in Nitin mukesh’s voice!)

10. Trimurti – Subhash Ghai’s magnum opus, a film too high on hype and low on quality – this one tanked at the BO so badly that it left Mr Ghai poorer (a la Yaadein, Yuvvrajj) I just thanked god because the cliched role of strong yet revenge seeking mom was not given to Rakhi but to apni Rajni – Priya Tendulkar; I mean god why – why does she have to raise her sons to seek revenge from Thakurs all the time (mere bete aayenge, my fingers are digging inside my palm right now). Top three stars of Bollywood of that time - Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and SRK were casted in this movie where Mohan Agashe played the baddie. Songs were needless to mention superhit on Superhit Muqabla, sample these - Bol bolle bol tujhko kya chahiye, Duniya Re Duniya very good very bad

11. Roop Ki Raani Choron Ka Raaja – Boney Kapoor’s magnum opus that teee tanked at the BO flat out. One of the most expensive movies of 90’s it featured Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in lead roles, songs were a rage and so was Sridevi’s dancing. I don’t remember anything further about this movie…..

12. Mehndi and Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat - Well these are put together as I don’t see any other reason to separate these two where the similarities begin and never end with buxom and thigh thunderous Rani doing weird dance moves with Shadaab Khan and then Faraaz Khan and gives social message in such thakela manner that you feel like screaming and cursing your existence on this planet. God Bless you Vikram Bhatt and K.Jo for adopting her and giving us the perky Alisha of Ghulam or hawty Tina of KKHH.

13. Ishq – ROFL, LMAO……the first half is a roller coaster ride with constant fighting of Aamir and Juhi – yelling at each other, throwing tooth pastes, killing each other with fake knife, coming as a ghost in night, a long smooch and the funky dance on ‘Neend churaai meri kisne o sanam’, the hilarious scene of walking on wire from roof top saying ‘Ram Ram mara mara‘ while hinting to the deaf servant – don’t cut the wire or his master telling him I told you to cut another wire! O god my stomach hurts while watching this scene. End note - Mr Lova Lova teri aankhon ka jaadu or Shweta Menon in white short skirt dancing with the boys on cacophony of Anu Malik’s Humko tumse pyar hai jiya bekraar hai aaja meri bulbul

14. Kabhi Haa Kabhi Naa – If my memory serves me right this came out at the same time as Jurassic Park. I remember this as my bro went out with his friends for this movie and I cried my heart out sulking in dad’s lap till my eyes swelled for him to take me out for JP. That was my first movie with dad and we both enjoyed it a lot! Coming back to KHKN – its a cute movie with amazing scenes showing father-son emotions. Naseerji is great here as a church Father and so is SRK. The movie had some of the most beautiful numbers - Woh to hai albela, Aye Kaash ke hum, Aana mere pyaar ko na, Deewana Tera Deewana or one of the rarest dramatic story telling songs in history of bollywood – Sachi ye Kahaani hai sun lo meri jaan. Ashutosh Gowariker played the role of a band member too.

15. Judwaa – ‘Oonchi hai building‘, ‘Tan Tana Tan Tara‘, ‘East or west India is the best‘ – Salman Khan in double role with Rambha and Karisma in this crazy mind caper. The innocent Salman was my favorite. Total time pass.

16. Hello Brother – Havaldar Hatella aka Johnny Lever, Pungi baja, thunderours thigh Rani in toooo short mini skirts and Arbaaz Khan in this heart transplant crazy love story.

17. Khiladi – 100% entertainment bole to paisa wasool. The mother of all Khiladi legacy movies. The awesome murder mystery with cool college pranks, awesome songs and cute chemistry between Akshay and Ayesha Jhulka. The heart rendering ‘Waada Raha Sanam Honge Juda Na Hum or the naughty ‘Khud Ko Kya Samajhti hai‘ – this is shudh ghar ka desi asli khaalis Abbas-Mustaan production for you.

The others that are coming in my mind are Chamatkaar, Guddu (both SRK starrers), Dulhe Raja, Kshatriya/Parampara (/ intended as both have too similar a story line with different ensemble caste), Hindustani (mind blowing music by HRH AR Rahman - Latka Laga Dia Humne Jhatka Laga Diya Tumne, Maaya Machindra, Telephone Dhun mein hasne waali - yes people I still listen to these numbers – they are in my iPod :D ), Viraasat (beautiful movie with impressive performances from Anil Kapoor, Tabu, Pooja Batra and Amrish Puri – who can forget - Taarein Hai Baraati or Payali Chunmun or Dhol Bajne Laga), Hero No. 1 (Chi Chi again - Sona Kitna Sona hai - full too take on 70’s Baawarchi!), Coolie No. 1 (Chi Chi Karisma again with Husn hai Suhaana and Kader Khan with his comic timing), Beta and Madhuri’s hot Ouch Dhak dhak karne Laga…eh I know too many right now…..come on share your potboilers too in the comments below.

You know you know one! :P

Love Aaj Kal : The review

The biggest problem with Love Aaj Kal is the ekdum thanda chemistry between Saif and Deepika.
For starters, Deepika can’t act to save her life. The character that she potrayed was a total mismatch for her. She lacked the spark while delivering those brilliant catty dialogues, only saving grace being her catty smile once in a while. The girl (a difficult name for me to remember!!) portraying young Harleen Kaur has amazing screen presence but looks too awkward in the regular bollywood song and dance routine read Thoda Thoda Pyaar.

Saif has given his best in the movie (wouldn’t say career’s best, as we are still stuck on his Langda Tyagi act – aren’t we?).
Deepika has been given some really witty lines specially the one where she explains the ‘drunk and advantage act’ but her dialogue delivery simply kills them. Saif is amazing in the scene where he talks about how he is normal with Meera moving on in life with a new partner . His lips say he is ok but the expression change on his face is remarkable and I just loved how he tried in vain to hide his discomfort at the very thought of Meera being someone else’s.
A lot has been written in the press about how Saif wanted Kareena in his maiden production venture and to an extent I am not sure why Imtiaz was hell bent on casting Deepika as Meera. Was this because he wanted to explore someone else and Deepika being a current hot property fitted the bill?
I couldn’t see the warmth of friendship between Jai and Meera, I couldn’t see that these two know each other inside out. They looked strangers in the song ‘Chor Bazaari’ especially when they could have utilized the beautiful number to show their crazy side and let their hair loose.

We also have forgettable Vir Das as a side kick and sad oh sad, Rahul Khanna is totally wasted as Meera’s arm candy.  :(      How I wish Dolly Ahluwalia was given more screen timing (I loved her in Aloo Chaat), she has done Anahita Shroff Adajania has done good costumes for Deepika specially the one in Chor Bazaari – very retro! Infact when I am in Delhi next I am picking something on lines of that.

There was an unneccesarry KANK take, where both of them are separated and get back while Jai undergoes a sad phase in life! Too reminiscent of Geet in Jab We Met where it was well scripted and went alongwith the role progression of Geet’s character.
Another sad let down for me was the picturization of the great song – ‘Chor Bazaari’. Confession time – I didn’t had high expectation from this movie but I wanted to see it as I simply love ‘Chor Bazaari’,’Aahun Aahun’. And ‘Yeh Dooriyan’ makes me cry everytime I hear it. Well ‘Yeh Dooriyan’ has been used very effectively and beautifully in the starting scenes of the movie where Imtiaz has intelligently shown the crest and troughs of Jai & Meera’s journey.
‘Twist’ was just way out of line in the movie! The clown in the blue dress is an Abhishek Bachchan look alike! Yeah.. :) :D :P

Raj Zutshi as Harleen’s father has 2-3 scenes only but shines the brightest as a frustrated father.
Rishi Kapoor is too good and how I wish if Neetu Ji was given more screen time. She looked lovely in the last scene. Love you the cutest actress of all times :P

On a lighter note, the movie has taken my world famous phrase – ‘Mango People/Mango Junta’. Couldn’t stop smiling whenever it was said and specially in the song ‘Aahun Aahun’ where it is written in big letters in the back ground along with Pratigya on the other side!

//Is janam mein aur har janam mein ei hee meri votti banegi – Harleen Kaur ;)  //Pratigya….brrrruuuaaah <8-|)> Saif looked so cute as young Veer….Jai was not even close enough on cuteness scale.

Net net, go for it – don’t expect too much! Enjoy the cheesy liners.

Ankh Lad jaana, Mar Mukh Jaana, Ekoiye Kahaani Bus – badle zamaana :D

For me, Imtiaz’s best still remains ‘Socha na Tha’.
